Birthday Loot

My birthday this year was quiet and unassuming. We had a nice dinner at home the night before and the day of my birthday we went out to a local place where the food isn’t that good but there’s a play area so we can eat and relax while Juniper plays. I got some good stuff for my birthday.

Tom got me a very beautiful sketchbook that I’m going to need to rip into for fear of keeping it on the shelf too long unmarred. Also, some shiny new earrings and some super great red shoes.

My sister-in-law sent me this very awesome, giant book called the Art of Looking Sideways. It’s a smorgasbord of all sorts of art related topics. First one I read was about how Brian Eno managed to make a contraption so that he could secretly pee on Duchamp’s fountain. Later that day he gave a lecture and decided to spend the lecture talking about how to had gone about pulling it off. That right there is worth the price of admission and I can’t wait to dig into the book looking for more gems.

And last but not least, I used my birthday funny money from the in-laws to buy these two very special books that I’ve been covetting. The Barefoot architect is one that I keep borrowing from the library and the other one is by the amazing David Rees, pencil sharpening extraordinaire.

A very happy birthday to me! And to top it all off, life is grand.
