apple 115 and flower power

The diagonal flower bed you see before you is a new addition. When we first moved in, that area was used to house a large plastic trash can full of rancid water. It was half full of yard debris which had then been filled up with rain water. It was swampy and stinky. I had to dump it out little by little. It smelled so rotten and disgusting. The area was probably once green with sod but it had been killed off by the trash can and other random debris thrown around on it. I found all sorts of trash in the soil. I first dug a little area a few weeks ago so I could bury my bumble bee house. This week I dug out the rest of the unhealthy sod and made it a diagonal flower bed to match the other side of the yard. There were a few extra cobblestones so I only ended up needing to buy one more. It looks pretty fantastic if I do say so myself. I’ve planted a couple of lavender plants, some salvia, and some calendula. I planted a fava bean against the fence too, mostly because I ended up with more fava beans than my raised bed had room for. We’ll see how it does in the heavy clay soil.
