Man, macy’s really knows how to 1. rope you in and 2. make your life complicated.
I went to get a girdle. The granny girdles cost $40-$50 and the pretty, beautiful one cost $82. I decided, what the hell, I have a job right now, I want the pretty one. So I went to buy it. Saleslady: “If you reopen your Macy’s account you get a big discount, plus you get a $10 rewards card.” So I said “ok,” got $16 off the girdle, went downstairs to get my $10 rewards card. The line to get it was full of shopaholics. One lady got almost $600 in rewards cards. you get $10 for every $50 you spend. These ladies had stacks of receipts. I finally got my rewards card and went upstairs again to spend it on tights. Turns out the rewards cards aren’t effective until July 24th through August 5th, so I have to go back. Then they’ll rope me in for something else. I just wanted a girdle and $12 tights, now I have to make extra trips!
And the other thing is, when you go to get your rewards card, they write down whatever balance you have left, so you feel *oh so close* to the next reward. So I spent $70, got a $10 card and I only need to spend another $30 to get another one! They are certainly crafty and know women. The line to pick up rewards cards consisted of 8 women, 1 man. Men don’t wait in lines for anything.
