RIPPLe Art Auction Dec 4th

I will have a metal sculpture up for auction at the Annual RIPPLe Art Auction. The RiPPLe Art Auction is an annual awareness event and fundraiser for We Love Clean Rivers, which showcases a series of local artists work that is made from river trash removed by volunteers during the Down the River Clean Up on the Clackamas each year.  This event will be Held at PNCA's Arthouse. Details to follow.

I participated in two river clean-ups and I never knew picking up trash could be so much fun. I nabbed a rusty car part and am creating an "aquatic grass" sculpture for the auction.

Coming in January

Sometime during the week of January 26th I will be publicly presenting my MFA work during Second Year Winter Review. I will be showing images of my work and presenting my ideas and process to a panel of faculty and the general public. All are welcome. Come grill me about my work. I'll keep you updated on exact place and time.

Grad School? What Grad School?

Oh yeah, it has been a while since I sent my last email, hasn't it? Here's an update. In Summer 2013 I began PNCA's Low-Residency MFA in Visual Studies program in Portland Oregon. I've been working on installation, video, audio, and sculpture projects. I graduate August 2015. It's been a great experience so far and I feel lucky to have become part of PNCA's community. I keep a Tumblr account of my inspirations and of the goings on in my studio. Please check in at alannarisse.tumblr.com. I am also the Social Media Coordinator of my program and keep a program Tumblr account up to date. You can find PNCA's Low-Residency MFA in Visual Studies Tumblr account here.

This September I was honored to be part of a group painting exhibition at the Johnson Creek Watershed Council Office in Milwaukie OR. The show was in support of the Johnson Creek Watershed Council. Curated by Anna Fidler, it included paintings by Hayley Barker, Kailyn Bowen Marcus, Anna Fidler, Elizabeth Malaska, and Alanna Risse. The show was featured in The Bee, a SE Portland newspaper. The article includes a picture of me!

Images From Summer 2014 Open Studios

Last Summer I built an installation entitled: Fantastic voyage. It consisted of a 12 foot cardboard "heart" and an 8 foot cardboard "stomach", both filled with pillows. You can see some of the images on my Flickr account.

Thanks, hope you are all doing well! XOXO -Alanna
