Doggy Chronicles: Nine Months

Hello beautiful girl. We got you just about nine months ago as of January 6th. You have been so snugly lately. You are so adorable, I can stare at you for hours. We can’t believe we wound up with such an amazing dog. We love you so much.

You are getting much better at not barking at other dogs when you are in the car or on your leash. Last week we went hiking and you happily sat by the side of the trail for a nice snack wile other dogs and people passed by. In the car, when you see another dog, you look for your treat instead of barking. Now seeing another dog is a fun event, not stressful and frustrating.

Tyron Creek Park

When we are at the dog park, if you get yourself into a stressful situation, you listen to us when we tell you to come with us away from the stress. At the big dog park, you check in with us all the time and if we whistle, you come. You play nice with the other dogs and we are getting better at recognizing when a dog is getting on your nerves. You learned to play fetch! That’s so great! Now fetching the ball and bringing it to our feet means you get a treat and you like that. One time you even brought another dog’s ball to our feet, hoping for a reward.

You just want to be with us all the time. I am trying to take you on all the errands I can. Thanks for coming out with us when we delivered Christmas presents. I was so fun having you there, even though you couldn’t contain your excitement and pulled on your leash a lot. You seem very content to be part of the action, as long as you’ve gotten some running out of your system first. I wish I could take you more places.

We got your DNA tests back. The results were…. weird. I don’t buy it for a second. The results said you were mostly chihuahua with bernese, springer spaniel, and dachshund. That’s just weird. So I guess you’re a Heinz 57 just like me.

It was so fun walking in the snow with you. I wonder if you’d ever seen snow before. You loved it so much, you couldn’t get enough. You had to go outside within 5 minutes of being back inside.
