Doggy Chronicles: My Lunch Date

post lunch
Today I was feeling really under the weather so I decided I needed some fresh air. I took Mississippi for a walk to the Library. It’s a little less than 3 miles there and back. She sat quietly outside the library while I returned our books and she got a nice treat when I returned. She was very good throughout the whole walk, didn’t bark at any dogs and was very well behaved when we passed by people. I told her to stay close as we walked by people and she did very well almost every time. She met a very nice Australian Sheppard and the owners asked me all sorts of questions about her. Everyone thinks she must be a puppy but it’s the border collie in her that makes her look small and puppy-like. That and her big, goofy teenager smile.

On the way back I decided to try her out at the local lunch cart. She’s only had public meals with us once — at a bench outside a DQ. That was easy because the food was quick and Tom stayed with her outside while I ordered. Today at Samurai Bento, I tied her to a bench and told her to stay. She sat very quietly while I ordered and was very calm while we waited for food. I had run out of treats so I was expecting lots of whining. When my food came, she laid down and waited for little nibbles of chicken. She didn’t whine once! She was a perfect little angel, even when another excited dog came very near her. She’s so amazing. Of course on the way home we got accidentally very close to a cat and I basically had to drag her most of the way home.

All in all it was a great walk and we are very proud of ourselves. I think she’s ready for breakfast out.
We are nearing our 5 month anniversary together. I can’t believe how far she’s come.
